Overview
The Specialty object represents practitioner specialties (ex: Pediatric Dermatology).
Index Version support
Read about the Index Versions concept here. By default, specialty data is a thin wrapper over standard NUCC taxonomy codes. This data is accessible using the idx_standard index.
Sometimes, you will want to create your own specialties, or clinical expertise, to assign to a practitioner that may not fit the standard taxonomy. A common example is Cosmetic Dermatology. In these scenarios, you can create a new specialty with the fields non_standard_specialization (ex: Cosmetic Dermatology) and non_standard_classification (ex: Dermatology) on your own index version.
Use the Closure-Index-Version header to specify which Index Version you want to write to and read from.
